DOERS mission is to aid refugees and internally displaced people, and to work against the causes of their displacement.

DOERS uses the profits from sales of Afghan handicrafts to sponsor Afghan widows to take a 9-week course in literacy, sewing and embroidery. At the end of the course, they get a sewing machine, as you can see in this picture from a graduation day. This is a life-changing experience for the woman and her children, as she can create a business on her own or as part of a women’s council.
